Hey, you liked those little bonus Well levels in Kao the Kangaroo, yeah? Well do I have good news for you. There’s an entire expansion full of them! You even get some extra goodies right in time for the Halloween season…too bad I’m reviewing this months late, sorry.
In the Oh! Well pack, we have five brand new Well stages as well as some Halloween themed outfits. Maybe a bit of a bite sized expansion, but for the price you pay, you’re getting at least an hour of new content. These new bonus levels can be accessed at any time, but I would recommend playing at least a little bit before you do so. At least to upgrade your health. Some of these can be a little difficult, but nothing too demanding.
If you disliked the big purple look the Well levels had…this isn’t going to fix that. There’s still that purple filter. This can get old if you’re doing every level in a row, but at the very least it’s not ugly. Just purple. Do a level, then play around in a main level overworld for a bit and then go back in.
Luckily, the level design for each well isn’t samey in the least. I really loved these levels. Rail grinding, hoard fights, pitch black darkness, sliding on ice. The variety is great and if you’re doing these levels maybe a bit early, they might be a real change to a status quo of an area.
Once a Well is done, you’ll unlock a head and body costume piece in the shop. They’re free, you just gotta beat these levels. They’re all a little spoopy. Especially the Jack-o-Lantern on Kao’s head. Like all of the other outfits, they’re nothing that changes the gameplay, but I love these little cute ways to customize your playthrough.
It’s more of the same, but it’s not like the base game was bad. I’m just hoping we get more of these packs in the future. Or better yet, a full expansion. Was a brief, albeit rather fun romp.
