Are you snowed in today with nowhere to go? Wishing you had a new Gabbin’ with Gamers to keep you all warm and snuggly? Then look no further as The Switch Effect welcomes Justin from We Play Switch! Make sure to follow them on social media!
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Justin and I have been passionate about video games since I was a baby. My father was big into video games and I used to just sit there and watch him play for hours. Over the years it drew me more into Nintendo and just gaming itself.
What was the first console that you owned?
The first console would have been SNES. It was my father’s, but he bought games for me to play.
Do you have any fond childhood memories based around gaming?
For multiple Christmases I remember each one of us just sitting around all vacation playing for hours. The GameCube would have been the one system I can remember as a child just playing the most. I would have my little 20 inch CRTV next to my bed and I would just sit there and dive into all the greatest GameCube games.
Were any of your family members enthusiastic about gaming?
My father was the prime reason I have been passionate about video games. My father was mostly into PC gaming so like I said before I would sit there and watch him play Doom, Heretic, Hexen. Those were the first games that I can remember just pulling up a chair and just getting so deep into. When it came to console gaming it was mostly me that would want the systems and my dad would play with me from time to time.
Let’s jump forward a bit. Here’s one to get you thinking. If you weren’t into videogames, what would be your hobby?
Other than Video Games, I’m pretty big into movies. I would say I go see 1-2 movies in theaters every week depending on the movie. I own a Movie Pass card which allows me to see them more frequent which is pretty awesome.
We came across your Facebook and YouTube account, We Play Switch, and loved seeing your posts. What interested you in starting a social media account?
As I became more and more into gaming over maybe the past seven years (there was a gap in my life where I actually stopped gaming mostly between age 18-23) one of the reasons that got me back into gaming was video game journalism and news/ media. I would listen to IGN (podcast beyond) Giant Bomb and followed NeoGaf. It was so engrossing and engaging I just wanted to be a part of it. I had this idea in my head in just creating my own social media account that would pay full attention on gaming, especially Nintendo Gaming.
Can you tell us more about We Play Switch?
We Play Switch started about 3 months after the Switch game out so around May 2017. It really was an idea of helping our Nintendo Switch Facebook Community in sharing news and rumors. We do have a YouTube account, but after the whole YouTube becoming very hard for new creators to grow I had to think of another place for We Play Switch to grow. Then Facebook announced that they are getting more into the Streaming/Gaming field so why not just stay where we are already growing and expand?
Time to “switch” gears. We at The Switch Effect are obviously big fans of Nintendo’s new console. What are your impressions of the console?
It’s been a pretty exciting year for Nintendo and I first want to congratulate them on making a system that I truly would want to support for years down the line. That being said, I have been following this next gen Nintendo System since NX or even before that when it was the dark ages of the Wii U. When I first saw the 3-4 minute YouTube video of what the Nintendo Switch is, it really opened my eyes on the next gen of gaming. This is what we as gamers want; we want to play gaming everywhere we go. The fact that I can bring my brand-new game to work and play at work for an hour still blows my mind. I really hope this shapes the way we all will game in the future all thanks to Nintendo.
How do you feel the Nintendo Switch performed in its first year?
I would say this 1st year for Nintendo was the biggest for them yet. Their stocks flew off for days, they have broken news articles multiple times, people who don’t really game know what Nintendo Switch is and are interested. The fact they released two games that are GOTY contenders against each other and the Switch is becoming the fastest selling game console in history speaks for itself.
What would you say were the highlights?
I would have to say releasing Zelda Breath of the Wild day one, having Mario Kart, Splatoon, and a 3D Mario Game were the biggest highlights. Secondary would be the amount of amazing advertising which helped sell all those switches.
In its second year, what are you hoping from Nintendo?
I can honestly say, I know the 2nd year for Nintendo will not be as crazy as the first. The only thing I hope for is that they can keep the momentum going. With the recent announcement of Super Smash Bros. (working title) coming in 2018 will alone help Nintendo keep that momentum.
Preferably Switch titles, but what upcoming game(s) are you most looking forward to?
Honestly, there is not really one particular game that has been announced that is making me go crazy. I will pick up Dark Souls, Octopath Traveler and probably trade my PS4 Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy to get the Switch version. I’m hoping for something big from E3.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share?
I would have to say thank you very much for taking the time to interview me. Also, stay tuned for We Play Switch as we have a lot planned for this year. We hope to shape gaming on Facebook and continue to create a place for Nintendo gamers to come and share their excitement.
