Switch Version of Dungeons 4 Should Be Avoided

When a franchise has four games, you have to assume that the developers did something right in order for them to make it that far. Dungeons is no exception, it’s a fun series, but I’m here to talk you out of playing the Switch version.
This is going to be a quick review because I don’t plan on sayinguch about Dungeons 4. If you’re already a fan of the series, then you know what the games are about. You already know how the overworld and underworld works, who most of the characters are, and how silly the dialogue is.
What you’ll want to know is if you should be playing it on the switch. If you’re knew to the series, you’ll be better off finding an in-depth review of Dungeons 4 for another console or waiting until the Switch version gets a few updates.
Why is that? Because the game is terrible on the Switch. I loved the art style, the gameplay, the humor, the fully voiced characters but I couldn’t even make it past a few hours because of how badly the game runs on the Switch, especially when in handheld mode.
I thought something was fishy when I first booted the game because the load times were unbearable. The first two load screens each took two or three minutes and that was before the game even started.
Cutscenes are fine and most of the gameplay works well but whenever there was dialogue over gameplay, the game played horrendously. Forget low FPS, there was no FPS half the time. Every now and then the game would freeze for a few seconds and dialogue was constantly being butchered.
I couldn’t make it more than two minutes without being bombarded with some form of immersion breaking technical issues. Dungeons 4 is by no means a bad game, but it’s incredibly difficult to play on the Switch, especially in handheld mode.
This version of the game is not worth $50. Buy it for another console and you’ll get your money’s worth easily or wait until there are multiple updates to the Switch version.
