If you’re one of many players who have been invested in Pokemon TCG Pocket over the past few weeks, you might have been disappointed by the lack of cards that were available near the start. Don’t get me wrong, launching the game with more than two hundred different cards is cool, but getting nearly all the common ones quickly is an easy task. 

In my own experience playing the game, I collected more than 1,100 cards during the first five weeks and completed 91% of the base set. It’s only natural to want more cards. 

In the weeks since the game was launched, there have been rumors and slight confirmations that we would soon be getting more cards added to the app. The initial news was that there would be new packs coming out later this month and then new cards being added every few months.

The expectation was that there would be around 400 to 600 cards in the game by Spring. Other than that, there were no confirmations about how many cards we’d be getting in future updates.

But if you look at achievements, there’s a little piece of info that’s often overlooked.

Not everyone goes to their profile page and does a deep dive into the achievements. You probably didn’t even know you got an achievement until you click on your profile when you need to do something like get your friend code.

So most players aren’t aware of the achievement for registering cards in the card dex. It’s actually impossible to get the first tier for this achievement right now because it requires you to register 500 different cards in the card dex and there simply isn’t enough cards available to do so. 

It might be possible to get this achievement with the first one or two updates, but that’s not what we’re concerned with. What we care about is the fact that this achievement has four tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Rainbow)

The rainbow achievement requires you to collect 5,000 different cards. Do you see what that means? 

The developers of the app have already implemented a reward for collecting more than 5,000 unique cards. It’s pretty obvious that they wouldn’t add this for no reason, the app will at some point have 5,000 unique cards.

Of course, we don’t know how often cards will be added or how long it takes to add all 5,000+, but this little mistake proves that there’s going to be a lot of support for the app and that we can expect more than 5,000 cards in the near future.
