A few days before Valentines Day, I found out about a game called Girlfriend from Hell. The premise intrigued me, so I decided to check it out. The game is about a couple named Mia and Haruto. Mia loved Haruto but when she proposes to him, he rejects her, saying he likes video games more.
So Mia takes it upon herself to get revenge on him and making his life miserable Home Alone style. Girlfriend from Hell is a point and click style game where you control Mia and set up all sorts of traps around the house using random items. With each level, these traps get more and more convoluted and hilarious.
It’s a very simple puzzle game but there were two things about the game that I didn’t like, but neither of them was game breaking. My first complaint is with the time limit that you’re given to complete a level because you’re only given a few minutes and there’s never enough time. You need to look for the items you need, figure out where they go, and spend time moving across the house.

I could never figure out the correct order on the first or even second attempt. Sometimes I’d be so confused that I’d waste four or five attempts before I knew what I was doing. It’s already a puzzle, but having to restart every few minutes was a huge handicap.
My other complaint is with the wonky controls that are present on the Switch version. Sometimes using one joystick to move the camera around wasn’t enough and you’d have to use both in order to move to where you wanted. Both of these were big complaints of mine but neither ruined the game, and since the game is so short and cheap, they were just minor nuisances.
That’s right, it’s a very short game. There’s only a handful of levels. Even if you spend multiple attempts on each level, you can beat the entire game in under two hours. Considering that the game is only $5, that’s not bad. You’ll get a solid amount of humor throughout your gameplay. Plus, it’s worth the price tag if you want to exchange $5 for a few laughs.
