I always had some interest in the Hitman games but was never able to play because of the price and availability on my consoles. When World of Assassination was released on Steam, I considered getting it multiple times, but the pricing for each version threw me off. Then came the signature edition for the Switch 2.
I didn’t have to pay for my copy, but I was immediately impressed by the price and the fact that it was all one game. The Steam version is broken down into a $30 lite edition, a $70 standard edition, and a $100 deluxe edition. The signature edition comes with everything for only $60.
Before I even talk about the game itself, it becomes pretty obvious that this is an insane steal for everything that you get and the price is well worth it for the amount of content. But since it’s a launch title for the switch 2, there’s bound to be some skepticism. So is it worth it?
While I did experience a few problems here and there, I had a blast. The campaign mode retells the story of the trilogy and is great for people looking to replay the games or those who are new to the series. It’s an entire game right there but that’s just the surface because there’s so much more. You have other game modes like freelancer, Assassin, and arcade, and a bunch of other stuff too.
Despite never having played the games before, and not having a reference, I thought the game looked and ran very well. This is not a game that would run on the original Switch, but just because the game runs well on the new console doesn’t mean that it’s perfect.
The game had many bugs and glitches, but they were all unpredictable. One day I played for three hours without any issues, but the game would crash every 15 minutes the next day. One glitch would cause 47 to walk through closed doors while another glitch caused bullets to be harmless. The game would usually crash shortly after and all progress would be gone.
There are other minor issues as well. There are many frame rate issues when you’re watching cutscenes and loading screen animations. There’s this one loading screen that literally looks like a slideshow. But the rest of the game looks and plays absolutely fine, other than the fact that most of the game requires a constant internet connection.
The frame rate while playing was never bad enough to hurt the gameplay. The Miami map has hundreds of NPC’s in one spot and occasionally moving cars, but movement was still pretty fluid in these parts of the map. Even with all these issues, it genuinely felt like I was playing on PS4 Pro, especially when using a Pro controller or the new joycons.
If you get past the bugs and occasional choppiness, the gameplay will wow you. Each map is huge, and you’re rewarded for doing challenges, being stealthy, and doing the same map over and over.
There’s enough content to suck hundreds of hours out of you and if you’re playing in handheld mode, some of the visual graphics are less noticeable. If you can get the game on Steam or PS5, that honestly should be your first choice, but this is a great example of how powerful the Switch 2 is and should be enjoyed if you’re playing this way.
