How To Build Your First PVP Dirt Team In Umamusume: Pretty Derby

When you’re first starting your Umamusume journey, filling out your first PVP squad is very easy. There’s only one spot for each race, that means you just have to put your best character in each one. For Dirt,  that’s obviously Haru Urara. But once you start getting promoted to higher classes, this becomes more difficult because starting at Class 3, each race has three spots.

To do your best in PVP, all three spots for each race needs to be filled. The only problem is that Haru Urara is the only character currently available that’s natively good on dirt tracks. So how do you get around that? You’ll have to build other characters to a point where they’re also good on dirt, but there aren’t that many options there either.

The only other characters that really stand a chance on dirt tracks are Taki Shuttle, El Condor Pasa, and Oguri Cap. Two of those are Three Star characters, meaning you’ll need some pull luck just to build a full dirt team. When you have three dirt characters you want, you need to build them up in a career using a legacy character that can increase their dirt stat to A.

This brings up another problem because not only do you have to go out of your way to build them into a dirt champion, you also remove them from their native spots. For instance, you could build an amazing El Condor Pasa that’s perfect for Medium. But your need for a dirt team will force you to put her in dirt and build another character for medium.

Currently my dirt team is El Condor Pasa Maruzensky, and Haru Urara. My Turf Mile team suffers because of it, but it’s a price I had to pay to have a competitive team. You need to bite the bullet and put in the effort to build a dirt team that revolves around Haru Urara, El Condor Pasa, Oguri Cap, and Taiki Shuttle.

Once more characters are added that are native to dirt, you can build those up and move the placeholders to where they would be better off. On a side note, I don’t recommend building Maruzensky for dirt, it took me a lot of legacy luck to get her dirt rating from D to A.
