How To Farm Sparks And Built Perfect Parents In Umamusume: Pretty Derby

You’ve probably spent way too much time building characters in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. You spent 100 hours on the game before realizing you don’t have a single good parent. No good skills, no 9 Star Sparks, nothing good. Why is that? I’ve spent close to 200 hours on the game so far and even I agree that this is one of the toughest parts of the game right now.

But good parents are honestly the most important aspect of the game. Having the best support cards can only do so much if your characters are capped because of poor inspiration buffs. A strong inheritance setup can carry your new trainees for a really long time, but you have to build them right.

It might seem smart to just spam parents that boost a certain stat. You’re building Sakura Bakushin O and you have a friend who has a 9 Star Speed Spark. Might seem smart but if that trainee has poor compatibility and no solid skills to pass off, your build will fall flat.

The first step to building a banger squad of parents is to build your first 9 Star Spark character. But the first step to doing that is to build a character that has a single 3 Star Spark. At the end of each career, one stat gets chosen for spark. Below 600 in any stat can give you a 1 Star Spark but that’s about it. Between 600 and 1,099 gets you a 5% chance of a 3 Star Spark, but only if that stat is chosen. At 1,100 or higher, it becomes a 10% chance.

An easy way to get a 3 Star Speed Spark early is to train Sakura Bakushin O and spam Speed and rest so that Speed hits 1200 but none of the other stats reach 600. You will still have a chance at getting a 1 Star Guts Spark but your odds of getting a 3 Star Speed Spark will be decent.

Once you have a 3 Star Spark, you use that as a parent and you use another 3 Star Spark from a guest to start the process all over again in the hopes of getting a character that has 9 Star Spark. This isn’t just for speed, you can do this for any stat because some builds might need extra stamina or power instead of speed.

But even with a 9 Star Spark character, it can still be a bad parent because of compatibility and skills. You’ve probably noticed the triangle, circle, and double-circle icons when picking inheritance parents. they directly impact how strong your inheritance events are. A triangle means low compatibility, a circle is mid-range, and a double circle means high compatibility.

If your parent has a lot of Gray, Pink, and Green skills, high compatibility increases your odds of getting sparks for them during inspiration events. 9 Star Sparks are great but if the parents or grandparents have a circle or double-circle and a ton of skills, those builds will be significantly better.

If you’re training a parent, your strategy changes a lot. Your goal is no longer to clear the career or build the best PVP character. Skill points and support cards don’t even matter that much anymore. Your goal is to increase compatibility and farming specific G1 sparks.

Once you’ve built a good parent, you can use them to make your future trainees even stronger and then you can keep repeating the process to make even better parents.
