Ever since Digimon Story Time Stranger came out, I’ve seen countless social media posts by people who were shocked that it took them between six and twelve hours to reach the title drop. The game has potential to be really long, but how much time do you actually need to invest? Your playtime will be dictated by three categories. They are the main story chapters, side quests, and grinding.
If you’re just focusing on beating the game, the 42 main chapters are all you should focus on. Here’s a list of all the main chapters so you can judge how far you are. Some story based chapters can be as short as 20 to 30 minutes while ones with a lot of battling and exploring can take as long as an hour to complete. If you skip the dialogue, all 42 main chapters can be complete in 20 to 25 hours, but on average it takes between 30 and 40 hours to beat the main story, depending on your pace.
Then there’s all the side quests, in which there are more than 70. Many of these can be short, and you want to focus on these if you want to improve your agent rank and skills, unlock Mega Digimon, or just want more of the story. Doing all the side quests could add another 15 to 30 hours to your playtime, bringing the total up to around 50 to 70 hours.
If you’re a completionist, you’ll spend a lot of extra time grinding to level up all your Digimon and create the perfect party. You’ll also want to collect all the Digimon, spend time on your DigiFarm, and mess with dungeons. A select few players will cross the one hundred hour mark.
