A few months ago, I randomly came across a random Youtube video of someone playing a game called Climb the Backrooms. At first, the game didn’t look that great, it was only a few weeks old, and nobody was talking about it. But the video was amazing because the developer was secretly in their game and messing with them. Then I found out that the developer has his own Youtube channel where he messes with other players.
His name is LovDEV and I quickly went down the rabbit hole. I eagerly awaited all his videos and he became one of my most watched Youtubers of 2025. I’ve seen developers do videos of their games before while working on them but this guy took things to the next level. His personality was great and his ability as a content creator was top notch. Climb the Backrooms became one of my top 10 games of 2025 because of his involvement.
In a matter of months, he became a Youtube celebrity while also constantly updating the game. Some really big streamers have played the game too, but it’s become quite the enigma. People don’t really talk about the game. The only time I ever see anything about the game is directly on LovDEV’s channel either from the video itself or comments.
The game itself has grown to be really good and LovDEV has since amassed 125,000 subscribers and nearly 5,000,000 views on his troll videos. Videos by other content creators playing Climb the Backrooms routinely get hundreds of thousands of views. But there are barely any social media posts and the game itself hasn’t even hit 700 reviews yet. For that level of success, you would expect a lot more people to look into the game after seeing videos.
Obviously we can’t directly see how many copies of the game were sold or how many sales were generated by the content. But from an outsider looking in, it would appear as if the Youtube success has far succeeded the inherent success of the game itself. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s just seems weird. Go and check out the game if you can or go and watch a bunch of LovDEV’s videos.
