When Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced, I was really excited, but all the bugs and glitches that were present at launch really turned me away. Like No Man’s Sky, the game was a hot mess when it released. If you were hyped for the game, you know how bad things were.
But also like No Man’s Sky, the developers slowly fixed everything, turning Cyberpunk 2077 into a great game over time. I was one of the few who never got back into it because I lost interest and moved away from my PS4 to focus on my Switch.
But when it was announced that the game would be coming to the Switch 2, I knew it was time to finally play. Not just because I really wanted to play the game, but also because it would be the first real test of how good the Switch 2 can be.
I’m not going to talk about the game itself. Most people already know everything they need to know about the game, the story and gameplay were never an issue. I’m here to tell you how well a formerly broken game plays on a portable Nintendo console.
It won’t take much to impress you either, because the game is a phenomenal feat of gaming engineering. This version doesn’t look as clean as the PS5 version but it looks better than the original PS4 version and the game is absolutely perfect when played in handheld mode.

A game this powerful would have never even booted on the Switch, but on the Switch 2, it’s a dream come true in handheld mode. Not only does the game run so well but the Switch 2 joy cons and pro controller make the experience even better because the controls are so smooth and fluid.
It’s crazy that a game like this can look so good on a screen that isn’t even 8 inches but CD Projekt RED made it work. I never had any issues with the core performance or visuals when in handheld mode, it was nothing but fun for me.
I did experience a few minor problems when docked though. My first issue was that the game bothered my eyes to the point where I had to put on my glasses. I learned that others were experiencing this as well, and I found that turning off both motion blue and film grain helped a bit.
My other complaint was that I couldn’t figure out how to keep gyro controls off when aiming. I know a lot of people love gyro controls but it made combat harder for me. Other than those tiny issues, docked mode was nearly just as good as handheld mode.
Other than gameplay and performance, value is another big reason as to why this game is so good. For starters, the game is super accessible because not only can you use both generations of switch controllers and gyro controls, but the game also supports full mouse and keyboard functions as well.
You also get a lot of bang for your buck. The Switch 2 version includes the base game and the Phantom Liberty expansion together for only $70. If you buy a physical copy, it’s all on one cartridge and you gets stickers too. The Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is as good as you could ask form and needs to be played.
